Why You Need Data

Big data, hadoop, analytics, agile… these are all buzzwords that we have all heard in 2019. But what does that have to do with anything especially in the world of marketing. Let’s dial back. Think of this, you’re trying to see your photos engagement for a client - before, people used to make recommendations or give solutions based on assumptions. “Oh this hotel isn’t doing well not because of the decisions they’re making but because they just had a bad month.” When haven’t we heard that in the world of hospitality?

With data analytics, the guess work is gone. People can make assumptions or think that they are giving the best solution but without data - it will always be because of a hunch, not because of numbers that prove the reality of the solution. Here are some easy ways to start incorporating data analytics to help with whatever kind of strategy you’re working on:
 

1. Start with Excel

Yes there are a billion of different technologies and data stacks that can help you making business decisions or even forecast, but I always say start small. With Excel, you can create rows and rows of data to help you start seeing trends. A simple solution to a complicated problem.
 

2. Visualize your data

Okay so you have all your data organized, now what? Time to start visualizing your data. When you’re trying to show trends to stakeholders or other departments, they don’t want to look and numbers in columns and rows. That’s hard to understand and look at, so do everyone a favour and visualize your data. Tableau is one of the most common ones and one of the easiest ones to use. If you’re a big Microsoft fan however, Power BI Is super easy and convenient to use because you can send your data from Excel straight to Power BI.
 
Pretty simple right? Now it’s time to start exporting your data sets and get to analyzing!
