Guide to Creating Visual Content for Your Hotel

With fierce competition in the hotel industry, enticing visuals of your property can help you stand out from the crowd. It should come as no surprise that many customers will make their decision based solely on the pictures that your hotel has online. Meaning, if your photos aren’t high-resolution and high-quality, it might be time to update them. Follow this guide for creating visual content that will improve your online aesthetic and increase your bookings.

Design your space

Make sure the area you’re capturing is tidy and clean so that it looks inviting. You should also consider adding props to your photos, such as a stack of magazines or a laptop. These minor details can add vibrancy to your photos and tell a story about the guests who stay there. You can customize the styling based on your target market and what their needs are.

Lighting is crucial

Potentially the most important part of photography is shooting in the correct lighting and if done right, it can completely change the look of a space. For pictures of your hotel rooms, shoot during the day with the most natural lighting. Don’t be afraid to get rid of dark shadows with some in-room lighting or creative lamp positioning.

Consider new angles

Professional photographer Adrienne Jordan recommends capturing your in-room pictures from a low angle. This different perspective can make your images appear more interesting and ensure any furniture in the frame looks less distorted. If you are shooting a larger space, such as a restaurant, consider positioning your camera higher in order to get all spaces in the room in your frame. This part may be trial and error but it is worth investing some time to get the best results.

Authenticity is key

Guests crave authenticity, not only while at the property but also during the booking and decision-making process. According to Hubspot, “consumers are 2.4x more likely to say user-generated content is authentic compared to brand-created content”. There is a myriad of user-generated content out there for you to take advantage of. Encourage your guests to share their pictures on social media and ask for permission to share the ones that best represent your brand, while remaining authentic.
